"Fashion Formula" Rosscarbery take 2nd prize at National Student Enterprise Award 2011

Transition Year students from Mount Saint Michael Secondary School, Rosscarbery claimed second place in the National Student Enterprise Awards held on April 14th in Croke Park. The team produced an “events manager” DVD with a step by step guide on setting up and running a fashion show.

The “Fashion Formula” DVD is currently retailing for €10 in over 300 Centra stores nationwide with money raised going towards Irish Guide Dogs for the Blind. The Rosscarbery students beat off stiff competition from over 35 other teams from all over the country who qualified in their region to represent their Enterprise Board. This is the highest award that the West Cork Enterprise Board has been awarded in the competition.

Speaking of the award, Christine Heffernan, West Cork Enterprise Board said “We are thrilled for the Rosscarbery pupils and are extremely proud of them. This is the highest achievement any West Cork school has been awarded in the Enterprise programme to date so is a huge boost to the region. This years competition was also the toughest the judges had ever seen so it us extremely encouraging to see that we have some fantastic budding entrepreneurs in our midst. The future is definitely bright for enterprise in West Cork!”

Also speaking of the final event, Christine Duggan, Schools Programme Co-Ordinator for West Cork said “The Rosscarbery students are a really special team and we were so fortunate to have them representing us with the guidance of their teacher Mr. John McMahon whose enthusiasm knows no bounds. Mount Saint Michael is an extremely progressive school and this can be seen clearly from the drive and motivation each of these students have. I knew we had something special in them going to the final in Dublin and to come away with 2nd prize is testament to all of their hard work, time and dedication”.
