SMILE Welcomes Nutricia Infant Nutrition as 150th Member

Recently the SMILE Resource Exchange was delighted to welcome Nutricia Infant Nutrition as its 150th business member in the Cork region. The Smile Resource Exchange is a free service available to businesses, the SMILE Resource Exchange has been operating in Cork since 2010 creating mutually beneficial links between businesses that see unused or waste resources from one being reused or recycled by another resulting in cost savings and the diversion of waste from landfill.

Based in Macroom, Nutricia Infant Nutrition forms the Medical Division of the Danone group, manufacturing specialised infant and toddler milks. Currently the Macroom manufacturing facility is undergoing a €50 million expansion which will see the creation of 40 permanent jobs as well as 200 construction jobs whilst the development is taking place. On completion, the facility will be the largest and most technologically advanced manufacturing centre in Danone Baby Nutrition's Global network. The expansion will result in a trebling of capacity and 98% of the output from Macroom will be exported and commercialised in more than 60 countries worldwide.

Welcoming Nutricia to the SMILE Resource Exchange, Project Manager Michelle Green said “we are delighted to welcome Nutricia as our 150th member and we look forward to working with them in the coming months. To date this free service has been helping many small to medium size businesses save money and indeed helping the environment. We are very encouraged to have a multi -national company like Nutricia Infant Nutrition join, who can also see the benefits of being involved. We are encouraging all businesses, large and small, to join for free and see if together we can identify opportunities to save money and identify new business opportunities out of available waste resources.”

Donal Dennehy, General Manager of the manufacturing facility in Macroom said “we are delighted to be the 150th member of such an innovative initiative and we look forward to working with the SMILE team in identifying opportunities ahead.”

The SMILE Resource Exchange has been operating in Cork since 2010 but will expand its offering to businesses outside of Cork in the coming months. For details of upcoming events and information on how to join, contact Michelle Green at 026 20520 or log onto the website http://www.smileexchange.ie.
