Fastnet Mussels

Having been one of the pioneers of the mussel industry in Bantry, John Murphy received assistance from the Enterprise Board in 1995 to develop a unique 'frozen in the shell' mussel product at Gearhies in Bantry Bay, which resulted in the immediate employment of nine people. The company has since added several other shellfish products to its portfolio and exports to the UK and to Europe.

Fastnet Mussels has been assisted by BIM to develop a modern production facility at Gearhies which has seen several million euro invested in facilities to ensure that product of the very highest quality is produced.

Fastnet Mussels currently employs 34 people in Bantry.
