Glenmar Shellfish Ltd

Skibbereen based, Glenmar Shellfish Ltd. was the first fish processing operation to receive assistance from the Board in 1995. For several years the processing sector had been regarded as suffering from over capacity. With the technical assistance of fishery interests in the area, the Enterprise Board was successful in removing the block on aid to the sector to reflect changes in fishing practices and subsequent landings that year.

With the removal of that ban, assistance was provided to Mel Bendon to increase his workforce at the time to 45 people. Mel has since gone on to build a highly successful processing company that exports products to successful countries. The company currently employs 35 people at Skibbereen.
